Paediatric Dentistry
You may think that since baby teeth are going to fall in due course, caring for them is not so important. But this notion cannot be farther from the truth. Besides allowing your child to chew and smile, the baby teeth serve as important placeholders for the adult permanent teeth. If a baby tooth falls too soon, the space collapses and prevents the adult tooth from erupting in the right place. If a baby tooth stays too long and does not fall when it’s supposed to, the adult tooth may not have enough space to come into the jaw, and may also indicate a problem with the incoming adult teeth.
The Acharya Dental team ensures that your children’s teeth are in great hands. The paediatric dentists on our panel will ensure your child has a healthy relationship with good oral hygiene and dentistry.
PARENTS – PLEASE READ!
Please do not use the fear of dentistry or dentists as a threat in an attempt to discipline your child. Doing so creates an unhealthy fear of dentistry and has long standing negative effects. Instead try positive reinforcement – “The dentist is going to be so happy to see how well you brush your teeth” rather than “The dentist is going to drill into your teeth because you eat too many chocolates”

We recommend the first dental appointment after 1 year of age. Don’t worry if teeth have not erupted yet; this appointment is mainly to get the parents and the children comfortable with dentistry and to discuss oral hygiene suggestions. Occasionally other problems will be noted at this early age which will also be addressed.
Instructions specific to the procedure will be explained by the paediatric dentist. In general, in about 24 to 48 hours a child should be able to return to normal eating habits.
In general, all children need to visit the paediatric dental surgery 6 months to ensure proper oral hygiene and care.
The paediatric dentist will use various techniques such as positive reinforcement, distraction and sedation to ensure that your child has a comfortable stress-free dental appointment.
