Eat the right foods for your Oral health!

Did you know that saliva is one of our body’s strongest soldiers battling bacteria? Foods that promote saliva production such as limes, cherries and cranberries, can help your body fight bacteria in your mouth. Drinking water is also another great way to produce saliva that helps clear bacteria and cleanse your oral cavity. Foods that have a high water content also help to thwart the process of decay by diluting the sugars in the foods you consume. In other words, eat your fruits and veggies regularly to clear the bacteria that reside in your mouth.

What are Dental grills?

Dental grills can be extremely harmful for your teeth. Dental grills are decorative dental covers made of metal. Wearing grills for a long time might cause oral issues such as infection from trapped bacteria under the grill, gum disease, bone loss, cavities, gum irritation and chipped teeth. We at Acharya Dental‬ educate our patients on the oral health implications of various cosmetic products available in the market and place a special emphasis on the maintenance of oral hygiene.

Choose the right Tooth brush!

Choosing the right type of toothbrush is also vital for maintaining dental hygiene. Most ‪dentists‬ agree that a soft to medium bristled toothbrush is the best for removing plaque and debris from your teeth. When do you really need a Root canal?

Does every tooth that needs a crown need root canal treatment too? Absolutely not. Root canals are only needed if the infection in a tooth has spread to the root canal system within the tooth causing pain and sensitivity or if there is insufficient tooth structure to support a crown. At Acharya Dental, we believe in a conservative approach only treat the root canal of a tooth if clinical and radiographic (Xrays) findings show us the need for the procedure. Crowns are most successful when they are done on teeth that have not been root canal treated, and that is why we strive to preserve the vitality of your teeth.

Signs of developing a Wisdom tooth

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars can be quite troubling because they frequently do not come out of your jaw straight like other teeth, and instead end up “impacted” or trapped within the jaw bone. In some cases, this can be very painful and can also damage the neighboring teeth. You may not even be aware of this since it is initially not painful, but a quick checkup at ‪our clinic‬ will let you know exactly where these wisdom teeth are and what you need to do about them.

Importance of tooth enamel

Enamel helps protect your teeth from daily use such as chewing, biting, crunching, and grinding. Although enamel is a hard protector of teeth, it can chip and crack. Tooth erosion happens when acids wear away the enamel on teeth. Some of the factors that cause tooth enamel erosion are:
1) Excessive soft drink consumption (high levels of phosphoric and citric acids)
2) Fruit drinks (some acids in fruit drinks are more erosive than battery acid)
3) Dry mouth or low salivary flow (xerostomia)
4) Environmental factors (friction, wear and tear, stress, and corrosion).

Sophia’s smile makeover

Sophia came to us looking for a solution to her problem. She had been treated for various issues in her teeth by different dentists at different times. The result was what you see, different shades of teeth with black margins at the edges near her gums. These showed up prominently when she smiled and she was quite conscious and embarrassed by it. We gave her a new smile with all ceramic veneers . We first gave her a ‘trial smile’ made of acrylics to allow her to get a better understanding of the treatment. Once she was happy with the proposed design we completed her treatment with ceramic veneers.Sophia left India for her home in Europe, a very happy lady.
