Guard Your Mouth

While playing any type of contact sport (boxing, rugby, football, hockey, basketball), it’s a great idea to wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth from accidental damage. A mouth guard is a flexible plastic covering for your teeth that absorbs a good amount of the forces the teeth are subjected to in the event of an injury to the face. These can be fabricated easily in a single visit at Acharya Dental, so request an appointment with us to make a mouth guard for yourself or your children.

Pearly Whites

Your teeth should not be used for anything other than chewing food, as doing so can damage them permanently. Never use your teeth to open bottles, rip open packaging or anything else they’re not designed for. If a tooth fractures, depending on the level of the fracture, they may need a filling or a crown and sometimes even a root canal to repair the tooth. In extreme cases, a fractured tooth will need to be extracted and replaced with an implant, bridge or denture. Take care of your pearly whites!

Crowning Glory

Clara* was distraught as her old crown broke while biting into an apple. She felt her situation was hopeless and she would most likely need a dental implant to fix this tooth. However, with the magic of restorative dentistry, we were able to get her smile back to just the way it was with a simple crown. She is happy and planning to make more appointments now to replace the old discolored fillings in her mouth as well. At Acharya Dental, we are very conservative in our approach and always do our best to preserve our patient’s natural teeth.

Spreading Smiles

Justin* walked into Acharya Dental with a question. Why, he asked, does my smile does not look right? He had been to a dentist recently who gave him a composite bonded filling, but he was still not happy.
After doing a Smile Analysis we found that Justin had ended up with a smile curve that was in reverse, i.e the 2 central incisors were shorter than the lateral incisors. The colour of his bonded teeth were also mismatched .
We went to work and gave Justin a very pleasing smile with his teeth in a golden proportion where the central incisors were longer and in line with his canines. Ceramic veneers were placed to give him self confidence. Now, Justin has a smile for everyone!spreading_1

Umami

The health of your mouth can affect how you taste food. The presence of an infection, such as an abscess in the mouth can alter the taste of food. The five known tastes detected by taste buds are: bitter, sour, salty, sweet, and umami. Umami was identified in 1908 by a Japanese research and the chemical responsible for it is monosodium glutamate.

Sensitive Teeth

If you see a pimple-like bump on your gums, it could be an Abscess. This is a condition that is triggered when the pulp in the tooth dies. The root of the tooth is infected with bacteria, causing a pocket of pus to form around it. Ignoring an Abscess could cause the infection to spread and increase tooth sensitivity. Tongue Tied?

It happens to many of us at some point. We want to say something, and we are not able to do it.
Our emotions – anger, shock, surprise or just lack of confidence often dictate our choice of words or the words themselves. Yet, could it be a more technical physical reason?
In some people, tongue-tie is an anatomical problem. The tongue is restricted because of the way it is attached to the floor of the mouth. If these muscle attachments are too short, they prevent free movement, creating speech problems and more.
In infants, feeding can pose difficulties for both mother and child while nursing. Kids may find it difficult to chew solid food and tend to easily gag, vomit or dribble. Learning to speak clearly is also challenging.
The inability to open the mouth fully can lead to poor oral hygiene leading to cavities and gum disease. Teeth can be pushed out of alignment and will need orthodontic correction. The lower jaw often sticks out to compensate the limitation of the tongue.
In adults, speech and eating habits can affect self – esteem. Clicking or aching jaws, migraine and dental health issues are common. It is necessary to be aware that tongue – tie is a very real problem. Getting you and your kids checked will give you the timely help needed to avert far-reaching problems.
Simple procedures exist today at the dentist’s office using painless lasers to correct the tongue tie.
Once done, the tongue is all set to roam free!

Spreading smiles

Suman* was very upset.
When she had begun professional modelling three years ago, she had gone to the dentist to fix her smile with ceramic veneers. She was very happy with the results and her career soared to great heights. She had hectic shooting schedules, working hard and playing harder. She showed off her beautiful smile during photo shoots and to her large circle of admirers and friends.
She knew that her smile, along with her face, was indeed her fortune. She took very good care of her teeth and her veneers, brushing and flossing regularly.
She was in for a rude shock one morning when she noticed that there was a fine crack line on her veneered incisor. The edges of two of the teeth appeared jagged and chipped.
Tearfully, she made a visit to the dentist. Why did this happen?
Detailed analysis revealed that Suman had some habits that she was unaware of that had caused this problem.
During her make – up sessions she would hold hairpins, clips, safety pins and even pencils between her teeth. She often bit her nails when nervous, bored, excited or worried. She bit into almonds, walnuts and other hard crusty food with her front teeth.
Though ceramic veneers and crowns are strong, they are likely to break or get damaged when subjected to sharp direct force. Even natural teeth can chip in this fashion.
What was the remedy offered by Acharya Dental?
We replaced her veneers to bring back the sunshine into that stunning smile.
What else? We told Suman all that we just told you on this page.
