Space maintainer for your baby’s tooth
When your child loses his or her baby tooth too early due to decay or injury, your dentist will recommend a space maintainer. What are they? They are essentially a metal band or cap that fits around the tooth on one side with a metal loop that extends over the gap and fits snugly against the tooth on the other side. It holds the space of the missing tooth till the underlying permanent tooth erupts. Without it, the tooth near the space will shift and the adult tooth will have insufficient room to come into position normally. As a consequence of this, the adult teeth may tend to come in rotated or in awkward angles or positions. Therefore, space maintainers should be placed as soon as possible after the baby tooth is lost and it should be left in position till the adult tooth begins to erupt. You maybe able to avoid or minimise complicated and extensive orthodontic correction later. Make an appointment for your child athttp://goo.gl/5WknPg to learn more!
Keep your baby’s teeth healthy!
Did you know that baby teeth play an important role in speech development, facial structure and a child’s appearance. Although baby teeth are eventually replaced with permanent teeth, it is essential to keep them healthy. Decay and infection in baby teeth can cause damage to developing permanent teeth.
Dental care for your child
It is a must to get first-aid training once you become a parent. A child’s most common dental injury is chipping a front tooth. It is so common that it seems like a right of passage. Say, for example, a two year old trips and hits her front teeth on the tile floor. First, check to see if the teeth have been broken to the nerve. You can tell if you see layers and a pinkish centre. Then, wiggle each tooth and make sure it is not loose. If the teeth feel firmly in place, that is a good sign. Even if they are a little loose, the teeth should tighten again with time. If he/she develops a fever or bite sensitivity during the time, make an appointment with us at Acharya Dental to get started with the right treatment for your child.
Benefits of Fluoride for kids!
Did you know that certain kids can benefit from more fluoride? Fluoride is a mineral that helps teeth become more resistant to decay (cavities). You can help prevent your child from getting cavities by making sure they drink fluoridated water and brush at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste. For many children, this daily fluoride exposure is enough to protect them for a lifetime. Make an appointment for your kid at our clinic and learn from our dentists some of the precautionary steps that help in preventing cavities.

How to take care of a Chipped tooth?
If you or a loved one ever finds yourself in the unfortunate situation where a tooth is knocked out, pick it up carefully by the crown (or top) and not by the delicate roots. Gently rinse it off, and place it in milk or wrap it in a damp cloth. If you get to your dentist soon enough, there is a good chance that the tooth can be placed back in your mouth. Don’t hesitate to seek emergency care at our clinic.
Just Baby Teeth
Baby teeth or primary teeth as they are called first appear when your baby is 6 months old. By the time he or she is 2 years old 20 teeth have made their appearance and are there to stay up to 12 years, gradually being lost from 6 years onwards as the new permanent teeth develop. When the “baby” teeth develop cavities or any other problem it is usual to ask the dentist to remove the teeth as a “new one will come anyway”. Why waste time and money on these teeth? This is a very common misconcept. The importance of baby or primary teeth cannot be more underlined.
These teeth help jaw growth during the formative years. They act as a guide for the underlying teeth which are to come later. They help your child to chew well and speak properly. If a tooth is lost earlier due to either an accident or due to an infection, the permanent teeth will not replace them immediately. This is because these new teeth have to develop and will come into the mouth only when it is mature enough. Until such time the early loss of the baby teeth can cause difficulty in chewing, speech problems and traumatic visits to the dentist for extraction. Would you not like to give your child a gift of good dental health, carefree routine visits to the dentist and the loving care that only an informed parent can give?
Will thumb-sucking cause dental problems for babies?
Thumb-sucking is a natural behavioural instinct for babies. Many infants begin sucking their thumbs or using pacifiers within three months of birth, and thumb-sucking may continue through the toddler years. Neither habit generally poses a dental problem if it is discontinued before the child’s first permanent teeth erupt. Visit our clinic to consult with our dentist for child dental care if your child continues to follow the habit.
