Dental X-rays involve passing electromagnetic radiation through the jaw to produce images of the structures inside. The dental technician places a protective apron over your chest. Next, the X-ray sensor or film is placed in the patient’s mouth for capturing the picture. X-rays can detect cavities, erupting teeth, jaw position, and gum disease. The amount of radiation exposure with digital dental radiography is extremely low and even multiple x-rays are considered safe for the patient.
