How to cope with bacteria?
Bacteria are the primary etiological agents in periodontal disease, and it is estimated that more than 500 different bacterial species are capable of colonizing the adult mouth. The continuous production of cytokines in inflamed periodontal tissues is responsible for the progress of periodontitis and periodontal tissue destruction. How is whitening / bleaching done?
Whitening is a commonly done cosmetic procedure, and the degree of whitening you can expect is dependent on the amount of discoloration. Whitening, or bleaching works by removing stains that already exist in your teeth and restores them to their original colour. Whitening does NOT work by removing enamel, which is a commonly held belief. These stains can occur because of various reasons such as drinking tea, coffee, wine, smoking and medications to name a few. There are many ways to brighten a smile, whitening is one, veneering or “capping” is another. Discuss with our dentists about the treatment best suited for you.
Space maintainer for your baby’s tooth
When your child loses his or her baby tooth too early due to decay or injury, your dentist will recommend a space maintainer. What are they? They are essentially a metal band or cap that fits around the tooth on one side with a metal loop that extends over the gap and fits snugly against the tooth on the other side. It holds the space of the missing tooth till the underlying permanent tooth erupts. Without it, the tooth near the space will shift and the adult tooth will have insufficient room to come into position normally. As a consequence of this, the adult teeth may tend to come in rotated or in awkward angles or positions. Therefore, space maintainers should be placed as soon as possible after the baby tooth is lost and it should be left in position till the adult tooth begins to erupt. You maybe able to avoid or minimise complicated and extensive orthodontic correction later. Make an appointment for your child athttp://goo.gl/5WknPg to learn more!
What are some of the ways to temporarily relieve toothaches?
What are some of the ways to temporarily relieve toothaches?
There are many potential causes for tooth pain, and if it lasts you should always schedule an appointment with your dentist. However, for immediate relief now, we have a few home remedies to try:
1) Salt water: Salt helps alleviate inflammation in the gums, which can temporarily lessen the pain of toothaches and also may help stop the spread of bacteria in your mouth.
2) Painkillers: Over-the-counter painkillers can be another temporary, effective source of relief for toothaches. Aspirin and ibuprofen help reduce inflammation and pain. Take the tablets with water, do NOT crush the tablet and apply it directly on the painful area as this can cause “aspirin burn”.
3) Clove oil: This one may be new to you, but it is an age-old remedy for tooth pain. Mix 2-3 drops of clove oil with ¼ teaspoon of olive oil and the soak a cotton ball with the oil mixture. Place the cotton ball near the offending tooth and bite down to keep it in place. Clove oil has anti-bacterial properties and, amazingly, also acts as a mild local anaesthetic.

Wisdom teeth
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars can be quite troubling because they frequently do not come out of your jaw straight like other teeth, and instead end up “impacted” or trapped within the jaw bone. In some cases, this can be very painful and can also damage the neighbouring teeth. You may not even be aware of this since it is initially not painful, but a quick checkup at Acharya Dental will let you know exactly where these wisdom teeth are and what you need to do about them. Did you know that consumption of certain foods help prevent the occurrence of bacteria and inflammation in your mouth? Green tea is one such example, as it contains complex compounds called “catechins” that can fight inflammation and actually control bacterial infections. According to recent studies, it has been found that people who drink green tea are less prone to periodontal disease compared to infrequent green tea drinkers. Lasers in dentistry can be used for surgical procedures as it melts away tissue it comes in contact with. In many cases, the use of the laser instead of the drill or knife greatly reduces pain during the procedure.
At Acharya Dental, we use dental lasers for the following applications: 1) Implant surgeries 2) Removal of tooth decay 3) Gum lightening 4) Biopsies 5) Disinfection during root canal therapy 6) Speed up healing of mouth ulcers. As patients typically feel less pain with Lasers when compared to the drill, little or no anesthesia is needed when a laser is used.
